Psoriasis treatment
Psoriasis is a not contagious skin disease, that rarely affect certain joints. The dermatologist supports the patient when the lesions are extensive and are requiring special supervision. It mainly affects adults.
Psoriasis origins
We do not know very well the origin of this disease, it would be an autoimmune disorder of genetic origin in which several genes are implicated.
Treatment of psoriasis
The doctor has many effective therapies to treat flare-ups. You should know that psoriasis has a tendency to return and you should not hesitate to retreat.
Here are some tips for treatments used for psoriasis:
- Derivatives of Vitamin A: tazarotene ...: They are irritating. Put very little in applications (this does not diminish their effectiveness) and avoid putting them on the skin. Thus, the topical retinoids are often associated with cortisone creams, which reduce their abrasive character. They require contraception among women.
- The cortisone creams used in the treatment of psoriasis are often in the form of ointments due to their occlusive and emollient effect. The pacient should apply for several days the cortisone cream.
- Creams with vitamin D may also be proposed in the treatment of psoriasis in the general rate of two applications per day. One should not apply more than about 100g per week. Vitamin D creams are often associated with cortisonees creams in the treatment of psoriasis
Phototherapy treatment ( UV treatment)
- The sun is generally considered as a factor in improving psoriasis. It delivers UV cabin to reproduce the effect of the sun. You must avoid making it for many years because we know that UV plays an important role in causing skin cancer. It is estimated that one should not exceed an average of 30 meetings per year and 150 to 200 sessions for a lifetime. It is therefore important to follow medical advice and information if you have already had melanoma or UV-cons. You should also tell tell the doctor if you had skin cancer, a disease linked to the sun, moles, because they can cause rashes with UV.
- You must protect your eyes with provided goggles and men must keep their underpants.
- If your doctor has prescribed a drug to take 2 hours before the meetings (psoralen) you must wear dark sunglasses covering the sides of the eyes and protect themselves from the sun for 8 hours after taking.
Some side effects of photo therapy:
- Itching
- Redness
- Redness of eye cataracts and even in the absence of glasses during the session
- Worsening of photosensitive psoriasis
- Herpes
- Dry skin
- Allergy
- Brown spots
Some cons indications of phototherapy:
- History of skin cancer
- Photosensitizing drugs
- Allergy to UV photosensitive diseases (lupus. ..)
- Cataract
- Pregnancy
